Embedding Images
Open Creative Cloud
Open Creative Cloud from your Dock.
Login if needed (Continue with Google)
In Creative Cloud, if you don't see "Illustrator" make sure to select the "Apps" tab in the top toolbar.
Click "Open" to the right of Illustrator.
Create a New File
Click the "New File" blue button or just select "Letter"
Save as .aic File
In the very top toolbar, click "File" > "Save As..."
Click "Save to Creative Cloud"
In the "Save As" text bar, rename your file to be:
"Last Name, Embedding Images"
Click "Save"
Copy/Paste From Online
Find an image online that you like.
Right-click and click "Copy Image"
In Illustrator right-click and click "Paste" or click ("cmd" + "V") on your keyboard
There is no original file when you do this, so it is automatically embedded
Drag-and-Drop the image
Find a different image online.
Right-click on it and click "Save Image As..."
Save in your Creative Cloud Files folder.
Open Finder and locate your saved image.
Drag-and-drop the image into Illustrator. It will show up once you click into Illustrator again.
This links the original file to the Illustrator file (not embedded)
When your file is set as a .aic (Creative Cloud) file, you will keep getting an error until you embed the file.
Embed the Image
Click on the image.
In the "Properties" panel on the right-side toolbar, under "Quick Actions" click on the button that says "Embed"
Alternative Way to Embed an Image File
Another way to embed an image once it's in Illustrator:
Go to "Window" then scroll down and click on "Links"
When the pop-up panel opens, if there is a link icon next to the image name, then that image needs to be embedded.
Click the three lines icon (hamburger) in the top right and click "Embed Image(s)"
Save As PDF
In top menu, click "File" > "Save As..."
Click "Save on your computer"
At "Format:" choose "Adobe PDF (pdf)" from the drop-down
Click "Save"
Click "Save PDF"
Turn in PDF to Canvas
Turn in your .pdf file on Canvas.
