Portfolios are one of the most important parts to getting a job in the creative industry.
A curated collection of your best work.
Easily show potential employers or clients.
Requirements
By the end of the trimester, in your "Video Production" Google Drive folder, you should have:
A folder for each summative including:
the final version of each of your videos/animations
a screenshot of your editing timeline
For Premiere Pro projects: a compressed folder (.zip file) with all project files (copied from the "Project Manager")
Existing Portfolio?
Do you already have a "Graphic Design" folder in your Google Drive?
Organize
Find and open your "Video Production" folder
Within that folder, create a new folder titled "Video Production 1"
Move everything in there (from Video Production 1) into the new folder.
Click "Video Production" and click "Get link"
Click "Copy link"
Click "Done"
Submit to Canvas
Go to Canvas
Click "Submit Assignment"
Click in the text entry area.
On your keyboard, click "cmd" + "V" to paste the link.
Click "enter" or the spacebar to make the link a clickable blue underlined hyperlink.
Click "Submit Assignment"
No Portfolio? Initial Setup
If you don't already have a "Video Production" folder in your Google Drive:
Create Google Drive Folder
Sign in if needed with your school email
Click "+ New" then "New folder"
Name your folder "Video Production" and click "Create"
Double-click on your new folder to open.
Change Share Settings
Click "Video Production"
Click on the title, then "Share"
Under "General access" choose "Bethel School District"
Copy Link
Click "Copy link"
Click "Done"
Submit to Canvas
Go to Canvas
Click "Submit Assignment"
Click in the text entry area.
On your keyboard, click "cmd" + "V" to paste the link.
Click "enter" or the spacebar to make the link a clickable blue underlined hyperlink.
Click "Submit Assignment"
Update #1 (Add Interview)
Create a Folder for "1 - Interview"
Find and open your "Video Production" folder
Click "+ New" again then "New folder" (or right-click and click "New folder")
Name the folder: "1 - Interview" and click "Create"
Double-click on your new folder to open.
Add Your Exported Video (.mp4) & Screenshot
Locate your exported .mp4 file and screenshot
These should be in Finder > Creative Cloud Files or on your Desktop
This is what was due on Canvas, so you can also download the files from the Canvas assignment
Drag them to your "1 - Interview" folder.
Submit to Canvas
Copy the link (url) of your main "Video Production" folder
Go to Canvas
Click "Submit Assignment"

Add Your Pre-Production Pitch PDF
Locate your PDF Pre-Production Pitch
Drag it to your new folder.

Demo Reel
A demo reel highlights the best sequences of a filmmaker's previous work.
It is the best way for filmmakers to showcase their capabilities and creative competency.
Your reel should be presenting only your best work, not every project you have ever worked on.
Professional: 90 seconds - 2 minutes max
Edit your best shots in a fast-paced montage, set to music
Assignment Requirements
Include at least 3 summative videos
Include background music and align transitions
The entire demo reel should be less than 30 seconds
Each clip should be less than 10 seconds
Include a "slate" at the end
Find Background Music
Find a song you like and click "Download"
Move your downloaded music to your "Creative Cloud Files"
Open Premiere Pro
Log in to an iMac
Open Creative Cloud in your dock
Under the "Apps" tab, find Premiere Pro
Click "Open" to the right
Click "New Project"
Name Project
Next to "Project name" in the top left, name your project: "Demo Reel"
Find and Import Summative Videos & Music
Click "Home" > "Creative Cloud Files"
Locate your summative videos and select at least 3 of the following:
History Animation
Premiere Pro
Audio
Video Ad
Short Film
Locate your music file and select.
Click "Create"
Arrange & Trim Videos
Arrange your videos so that you are starting with your strongest, most captivating work
Using the Ripple Edit Tool, trim your videos.
Align your video transitions with beats/transitions in the music.
Add a Slate (Text Layer)
Make sure nothing is selected.
Move your playhead to the end of your video
Create a text layer (Graphics and Titles > New Layer > Text)
Type the following:
Your Full Name
Video Production 1
2022-2023 Trimester 2
Export Your Video
In the top menu, click "File" > "Export" > "Media..."
Name it "Last Name, Demo Reel" (ex: Hodges, Demo Reel)
Change the "Preset" to "Match Source - Adaptive Low Bitrate"
Double-click on the blue hyperlink next to "Location"
In the pop-up:
Click on "Creative..." (Creative Cloud Files) on the left toolbar
Click "Save"
Click Export in the bottom right corner.
Add Your Demo Reel to Your Portfolio
Locate your exported demo reel in your "Creative Cloud Files" in Finder
Drag the video over to your Google Drive portfolio folder
Submit Final Portfolio
Check Contents
Your portfolio should have 5 folders and your Demo Reel
Check Share Settings & Copy Link
Go back to the main "Video Production" folder
Click on the "Video Production" title, then "Share"
Under "General access" make sure it says "Bethel School District"
Click "Copy Link"
Submit to Canvas
Go to Canvas
Click "Submit Assignment"
Click in the text entry area.
On your keyboard, click "cmd" + "V" to paste the link.
