SUMMATIVE: Production
Prerequisite
Must complete "SUMMATIVE: Canvas Pouch Design" first.
Prep Design for Cricut
Transfer Drawing from Fresco to Illustrator
In Fresco, tap the share button
Tap "Open a copy"
Tap "Illustrator desktop"
On your iMac a pop-up should show up titled "Photoshop Import Options"
Click "OK"
Save as A Creative Cloud File
Go to "File" > "Save As..."
Click "Save to Creative Cloud"
Name it "Last Name, Canvas Pouch"
Click "Save"
Delete Image Layers
Open the "Layers" panel
Delete any layers that say "Image" by selecting it and then clicking the trash bin at the bottom right.
Click "Yes" on the pop-up
Select & Delete Template Fill-In
Use your selection tool and click and drag to create your selection box then let go to select your name and color swatches.
Click "delete" on your keyboard.
Adjust Artboard Size
Select the artboard tool.
In the "Properties" tab, adjust:
W: 7.5 in
H: 4 in
Click "Exit" in the Artboard area
Adjust Artwork Size
Select your Selection tool
Click and drag and let go to select your artwork
Hold down "shift" on your keyboard and click and drag the corners of your artwork to adjust the size without messing up the proportions.
Click and drag your artwork to move onto the artboard.
Organize Each Vinyl Color to a Layer
Select a shape.
Click "Select" > "Same" > "Fill Color"
Move all the little square colors in the Layers to a single layer.
Rename the layer to the color name.
Repeat for each color.
Delete empty layers.
Unite Shapes of the Same Color
In the "Layers" panel, click the circle to the right of a layer
In the "Properties" panel, under "Pathfinder" click the first icon.
Repeat for each color layer.
To check that it worked, open each layer and you should only see "<Group>"
Save .AIC file
If you see an asterisk (*), that means there are unsaved changes.
In the top menu, click "File" > "Save"
If "Save" is grayed out, it means your file has already been automatically saved.
Save as an SVG File
Go to "File" > "Save As..."
Choose "On your computer"
Choose the location: "My Drive" > "Graphic Design" > "4 - Production"
Change "Format" to "SVG (svg)"
Check "Use Artboards"
Click "Save"
Click "OK"
Import Project to Cricut Design Space
Open or Install Cricut Design Space
Open "Launchpad" from your dock
Search for "Cricut"
If it is there, click to open.
If it is not there, go to Downloading and Installing Design Space (Mac) and follow the instructions to install.
Sign in to the Class Account
Once the app is installed:
Click "Sign In" and input:
Username: ehodges@bethelsd.org
Password: GraphicDesign$$
Click "SIGN IN >"
Upload Design
Click "+ New Project"
Click "Upload" in the bottom left.
Then click "Upload Image"
Click "Browse"
Find your .svg file and click "Open"
Your design will look really low quality - click "Continue" then "Upload"
Ungroup
Right-click on the green "Group" and click "Ungroup"
Click in the blank canvas area to de-select the 3 layers so they're no longer highlighted green.
Attach Colors
Now you need to attach the colors together so your design does not get jumbled when printing.
Select the bottom layer.
Click the "Attach" button in the bottom. This will move the layer to the top and now it will be called "Attach"
Repeat on the bottom layer again and again.
Save
Click "Save"
Title your file "First Name (list the 3 vinyl colors)"
Make sure to use the exact color names in the "Vinyl Options" image
Click "Save"
Select "Cloud & Computer" and click "Apply"

Click on your keyboard "cmd" + "shift" + "5"
Adjust the rectangle to screenshot your design in Cricut (include your layers and file name)
Set Up Finder
Go to your Finder in your dock.
Select the "Columns" icon or choose "as Columns" in the dropdown list.
Select "Kind" the next dropdown to the right.
Move Screenshot to "4 - Vector"
Open up "My Drive" and navigate to your "Graphic Design" > "4 - Vector"
Drag your screenshot from Cricut into your "4 - Vector" folder.
Prep Pouch For Production
Get supplies:
a blank canvas pouch
a sticky note
a paper clip
Open Project in Cricut
Go to "My Stuff"
Scroll through the projects and click on yours.
Click "Make It"
Figure Out Vinyl Sizes
Each layer of vinyl will show up on the left.
Open the first layer and make note of how big the first color of vinyl needs to be. Give yourself at least a half inch of space outside of the design.
Example on the right: The design is 5" x 4" - so cut the vinyl to be: 4.5" x 5.5"
Repeat for each color
Write the sizes down for each color on your sticky note.
Prep
Stick your sticky note on your canvas pouch.
Use your paper clip to attach on the bottom of the canvas pouch.
Take Photo of Preps Canvas Pouch
Use your iPad and go to Google Drive app
Navigate to "My Drive" > "Graphic Design" > "4 - Production"
Click the "+" and take photo
Take a photo of your prepped canvas pouch
Check & Submit Google Drive
Check that you have the following 4 files to your "4 - Vector" Google Drive folder:
Exported PDF (from Fresco/iPad)
Timelapse Video (from Fresco/iPad)
.svg file (from Illustrator/iMac)
Screenshot of design in Cricut (from iMac)
Photo of prepped canvas pouch
Right-click on your "Graphic Design" folder
Click "Copy link to clipboard"
Paste this link in Canvas to submit.
Wait for your Design to be Cut
Mrs. Hodges will use the Cricut to cut each of your vinyl colors.
Weed Design
Once you get your cut vinyl layers:
Your design should stay attached to the clear plastic.
Use your fingers and a weeding tool to get rid of the excess vinyl that is not a part of your design.
Wait for your Design to be Heat Pressed
Mrs. Hodges will use the Heat press to affix your vinyl to your canvas pouch.
