Typography Effects
Create File in Illustrator
Open Adobe Illustrator
Click "New file"
Go to the "Print tab" and click "View All Presets"
Click "Tabloid"
Adjust "Points" to "Inches"
Click "Create"
Save as A Creative Cloud File
Go to "File" > "Save As..."
Click "Save to Creative Cloud"
Name it "Last Name, Type Effects"
Click "Save"
Type in a Shape
Create 3 Text Boxes
Use the Type Tool to create 3 text boxes.
Select all 3 text boxes (hold shift on your keyboard and click all 3)
Choose a cool font.
Under the "Properties" tab, under "Character" click the "..." then select the "TT" icon for "All Caps"
Make 3 Shapes
Create 3 different shapes
You can use your pen or curvature tools to create the shapes or the shape tools.
Use Envelope Distort
Select your first text box and your first shape.
Go to "Object" > "Envelope Distort" > "Make with Top Object"
Repeat for all three text boxes and shapes.
Type on a Path
Make 3 More Shapes
Create 3 more different shapes
You can use your pen or curvature tools to create the shapes or the shape tools.
Use Type on a Path Tool
Right-click on the Type Tool "T" icon on the left toolbar
Select "Type on a Path Tool"
Click on one of your new shapes and text should appear around the edges.
Type a sentence.
Adjust the font/size/all caps as needed.
Repeat for the other 2 shapes.
3D Effects
Create 3 Text Boxes
Use the Type Tool to create 3 text boxes.
Plane
Select a text box and go to "Effect" > "3D and Materials" > "Extrude and Bevel..."
Choose "Plane"
Play around with the rotation options (X, Y, Z, Perspective)
Extrude
Select a text box and go to "Effect" > "3D and Materials" > "Extrude and Bevel..."
"Extrude" should be automatically selected.
Play around with the various options (Depth, Twst, Taper, Bevel, Rotation, etc.)
Inflate
Select a text box and go to "Effect" > "3D and Materials" > "Extrude and Bevel..."
Choose "Inflate"
Play around with the various options (Depth, Twst, Taper, Volume etc.)
Save Your Poster
Because your file is saved on Creative Cloud, it will be a ".aic" file - this means Illustrator saves your file every 5 minutes.
If you see an asterisk (*), that means there are unsaved changes.
To save, in the top menu, click "File" > "Save"
If "Save" is grayed out, it means your file has already been automatically saved.
Save As PDF
In top menu, click "File" > "Save As..."
Choose "Save on your computer" this time.
Save it to your "My Drive"> "Graphic Design" > "6 - Tech" > "Formatives"
For"Format:" choose "Adobe PDF (pdf)" from the drop-down
Click "Save"
Click "Save PDF"
Submit PDF to Canvas
Submit your PDF to Canvas.
