Reverse Script
Script Basics
The four main basic elements of a script include:
Scene
Action
Character
Dialogue
Create an Arc Studio account
Go to Arc Studio: https://www.arcstudiopro.com/
Click "Start Writing Free"
Click "Sign In With Google" and sign in with your school Google account.
Click "I'm here to start my first script" then "I'm going solo!" then "Maybe later"
Review Sample Script
Review
Read through the sample script - it gives you info on how to use the program.
Title Page
The title of the script is "GETTING STARTED"
Click on it and you'll see the whole front page with other info you can add.
Scene Heading
The first line in the script is the "Scene Heading" (or "location slug") which includes:
"INT." for inside scenes or "EXT." for outside scenes.
Location
Time of day (ex: DAY)
Action
The second line in the sample script is an action which includes:
Character(s) doing something
Character/Dialogue
The third line in the sample script is a character name in all caps, then the 4th line is the dialogue that the character is saying.
Delete
Delete the sample script so your script is blank.
Watch the Scene
Watch the following scene from Black Panther (2018)
Or find a short (2 min) movie scene that includes at least 3 different characters talking
Reverse Script the Scene
Title Page
Click on the title page
Adjust:
Title: Black Panther
Subtitle: Ending Scene
Written by: Ryan Coogler
Scene Heading
Click the light gray icon on the second page to choose "Scene Heading"
Click "EXT." because the scene is filmed outside.
Type "Oakland" as the location
Then choose "DAY"
Action
Type to describe the first shot and the action that is happening.
On a new line, then type to describe the next shot with the main characters and what action is happening before they start talking.
Character/Dialogue
Start a new line and choose "Character"
Type "Shuri" for the character's name
Start a new line (choose "Dialogue" if it doesn't do it automatically) and type out what she says.
Repeat
Continue writing out the action and the character/dialogue for the rest of the scene.
Export
Click the share icon (up arrow) in the top right.
Click "Export"
The PDF should open in a new tab.
Click the "..." then "Download this file"
Submit to Canvas
Submit the PDF to Canvas.
