SCraps Challenge: Production
Prerequisite
Must complete "Scraps Challenge: Design" and "Scraps Challenge: Prep"
Cut Design using Cricut
Sign in to the Class Account
Open the Cricut app, if it is not already open
If not signed in yet, click "Sign In" and input:
Username: ehodges@bethelsd.org
Password: GraphicDesign$$
Click "SIGN IN >"
Open Project
Go to "My Stuff"
Scroll through the projects and click on yours.
Click "Make It"
Mirror All Layers
Select "On Mat"
Click "Confirm"
In each layer, toggle "Mirror"
It should show green on each layer.
Click "Continue"
Set Base Material, Attach Vinyl
For your first layer, select the base material.
All colors (except holographic): "Everyday Iron-On
Holographic: "Smart Iron-On - Holographic"
Attach the correct vinyl piece to the cutting mat
Take the clear cover off the cutting mat
Place the vinyl, shiny/color side down in the top left corner
Load into Cricut and Cut
Place the cutting mat into/under the white slots
Press the blinking load/unload button.
Wait for it to load/set
Once the start button is flashing, press it.
Let the Cricut cut it out.
Click the load/unload button
Repeat for Each Vinyl Layer
Repeat for each vinyl layer:
Set Base Material, Attach Vinyl
Load into Cricut and Cut
Weed Design
Once you get your vinyl layers cut, it is time to weed out the extra vinyl:
Each vinyl piece is made up of 2 layers: a clear plastic backing and the actual vinyl.
Bend a corner of the vinyl or use a weeding tool to start separating the two layers.
Slowly peel off the extra vinyl (not a part of your design)
Your design should stay attached to the clear plastic.
For pieces that are in the middle of your design, you will need to use a weeding tool to peel them off.
Repeat for each layer/color of vinyl
Heat Press Your Design
Use the Heat Guide to Identify Settings
Select the Crictu Easy Press 2 or Easy Press (whichever you are using)
Choose your Heat Transfer Material:
All colors (except holographic): "Everyday Iron-On/Lite/Metallic"
Holographic: "Smart Iron-On Holographic"
Choose your Base Material: Cotton Canvas
Click "Apply" and it will tell you how hot and for how long to use the heat press. Use the lowest setting required for your design.
You will need to use different settings only if you have used the holographic, otherwise all others will be the same settings.
Set Up the Heat Press
Plug in the heat press.
Click the on button
Set the temperature according to the settings you found above. Click the plus and minus buttons to set.
Set the time by clicking the timer button and adjust the value with the plus and minus buttons.
Wait until the light turns green.
Heat Press Each Layer
Start by pre-heating the material.
Start by putting your bottom vinyl layer on the product, sticky side down.
Place the product with the first layer on the heat pad.
Place the parchment paper on top.
Press the heat press on top and press the green button.
Once the timer is done, remove the heat press.
You can use the ruler with the cork backing to press the design onto the product more
Wait for the clear plastic on the design to cool a little, then slowly peel it off so only the design remains.
Repeat for each layer.
